Upton may come back
Former National Party Environment Minister Simon Upton is believed to be on the short list to get a top Parliamentary post.
Upton is currently the OECD’s Director of its Environmental Directorate.
But he has been interviewed for the post of Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment and is due back in New Zealand next week which may indicate that he has got the job.
The Commissioner's position requires the consent of the Opposition however it is thought that Upton would have the support of Labour.
Upton was a National MP and Minister from 1981 – 2001. He was the Minister for the Environment who enacted the Resource Management Act.
He has lived in Paris since 2001.
