Penny Bright dead at 64

The long-time anti Auckland Council protester Penny Bright died last night aged 64. Bright was a regular fixture when politicians went out in public in Auckland and with a collection of protest signs and her trademark black beret she was easily recognisable and generally audible as she maintained a barrage of interjections. One of her favourite calls was "Shon Key" whenever John Key appeared. Her complaints against the Council centred on what she argued was its secrecy and its cover up of corruption. This picture was taken at Winston Peters' Auckland election rally on the North Shore in September last year --- she liked it and wanted a copy (which POLITIK was happy to supply.)
